Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- CarMax Inc. (KMX): shares of Richmond, Virginia based used car retailer jumped 7.59% or $2.39 to $33.89 per share as the company's first quarter profit jumped 54% to $56.8 million or 53 cents per share compared with $37 million in the same quarter of previous year. The result also beats the Street's estimate of 38 cents per share. The stock was the third biggest winner on NYSE of today with 5.2 million shares traded.
- Sepracor Inc.(SEPR): shares of Marlborough, MA based drug maker surged 9.35% or $4.63 to $54.15 per share on rumors that the sleeping pill maker could be a takeover target. The stock was the twelveth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 13 million shares traded, the seventeenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Nortel Networks Corp. (NT): shares of Brampton, Canada based network equipments and solutions provider plunged 10.13% or 23 cents to 52 weeks low of $2.04 per share on joint venture between rival European telecom companies Nokia and Siemens. The stock was the seventh leading decliner and the heaviest traded on NYSE today with 57 million shares exchanged hands.
