Stock On The Move - March 17
Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- GlobeTel Communications Corp. (GTE): shares of Pembroke Pines, Florida, based Voice over Internet Protocol(VoIP) service provider jumped 21.46% to $2.83 as the company would be revising payment plan for installion broadband phone services in Russian cities. The stock is the fourth leading gainer on AMEX today with 5.2 million shares traded.
- Generex Biotechnology Corp. (GNBT): shares of Toronto, Canada based potential bird flu vaccine maker surged for the fourth consecutive day on bird flu breakout fear and new patent granted in Maxico. The stock was up 12.21% or 32 cents to $2.94 with 20.9 million shares exchanged hands, about three times average volumn. The stock was trading at $2.18 on Monday.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- ViroPharma Inc. (VPHM): shares of Exton, PA, based antibiotics drug maker plunged 33.16% to $10.855 as new FDA action could make the comany's big revenue driver Vancocin easier to make by competitors. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 49 million shares traded, the nineth heaviest on Nasdaq.
- ABX Air Inc. (ABXA): shares of Wilmington, Ohio based air cargo transport company lost 13.98% to 52 weeks low of $6.89 as the company reported disappointing fourth quarter result on Thursday with net income fell to $9 million from $18 million in the previous quarter.
