Stocks On The Move - August 10

Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN): shares of Philadelphia based speciality teen apparel company jumped 14.19% to $16.01 on rising second quarter revenue. This could the time for the recovery as the stock's up on heavy volumn with KD rising. If the stock can afterward break the 50 day moving avearge, do expect more buyers coming. The stock was the eighth leading gainer and the nineteenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 14 million shares traded.
  • Tenet Healthcare Corp.(THC): shares of Dallas, Texas based healthcare service provider surged 13.38% to $6.61 per share after the company reported second quarter results which beat Wall Street estimates. The stock is now back to 50 day moving average. If the stock can break above 50 day moving average we could finally see the recovery coming as KD and MACD now show positive sign as K line on top of D line and MACD above signal line. The stock was the second leading gainer and the fourteenth heaviest traded on NYSE today with 16 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Rotech Healthcare Inc. (ROHI): shares Orlando, Florida based home medical equipment maker were hammered 60.67% to all time low of $1.18 per share on disappointing second quarter earning plus warning letter from FDA. The stock was the biggest loser of the day with 6.7 million shares traded.
  • Movie Gallery Inc. (MOVI): just few months ago the severely punished movie rental company was on its way to huge recovery and had gone from $1.68 per share to as high as $8.75 per share. However most gains evaporated today as surprisingly huge second quarter loss send the stock down 54.1% to $2.97 per share. The gap down today was a very dangerous sign and with MACD falling below 0 and K line about to dropped below D line, expect more sell-off coming. The stock was the second leading decliner and the twelveth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 21 million shares exchanged hands.
