Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- Cardica Inc. (CRDC): shares of Redwood, CA based medical instrument system maker for surgeons soared 33.33% to $7 per share after FDA approves sale of the commpany's new device used in coronary artery bypass surgery. The stock was the best performer on Nasdaq today with 5.59 million shares traded.
- Phelps Dodge Corp. (PD): the Arizona based copper, molybdenum and molybdenum based chemicals prducer surged 26.78% to near 52 weeks high of $120.47 per share after Freeport-McMoRan Coper & Gold Inc. is buying the company for $25.9 billion or $126.46 per share. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE today with 29.29 million shares traded.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Enterra Energy Trust (ENT): shares of Canadian oil and gas company tumbled 8.7% to $9.13 per share on profit taking after the stock surged for three straight sessions from $6.9 to $10 last Friday. The stock was the leading decliner on NYSE today with 5.3 million shares traded.
