Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Crystallex International Corp. (KRY): shares of Toronto, Canada based gold mining company surged 11.74% to $3.33 per share on rising gold price. The stock was the second leading gainer on AMEX today with 7.69 million shares traded.
  • Laidlaw International Inc.(LI): shares of Naperville, IL based Greyhound operator rose 9.02% to $34.58 per share as FirstGroup is buying the company for $2.8 billion. The stock was the third leading gainer on NYSE today with 23.43 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Silicon Image, Inc. (SIMG): shares of Sunnyvale, CA based semiconductor company plunged 24.08% to $9.24 per share on weak sales forecast for the first quarter. The stock was the second leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 17.2 million shares traded.
  • Momenta Pharmaceuticals Inc. (MNTA): shares of Cambridge, MA based biotechnology company plunged 20.02% to $16.1 per share on patent case loss. The stock was the third biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 6.97 million shares exchanged hands.
