Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Zanett Inc. (ZANE): shares of New York based information technology solutions provider soared 54.41% to $2.1 per share after the company was part of the team which received contract from the Department Homeland Security. The stock was the biggest winner and the sixteenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 20.95 million shares exchanged hands.
  • Novelis Inc. (NVL): shares of Atlanta based aluminum maker surged 23.8% to $37.3 per share on potential sale of the company. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE today with 9.99 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • LECG Corp. (XPRT): shares of Emeryville, CA based financial research company plunged 23.08% to $14.13 per share after the company cut its fourth-quarter and fiscal 2006 forecasts. The stock was the leading decliner on Nasdaq todaywith 5.91 million shares traded.
  • Western Digital Corp. (WDC): shares of Lake Forest, CA based hard disk maker lost 8.12% to $19.11 per share despite posted strong than expected second quarter results as concerns over lack of gross margin improvement. The stock was the fourth leading decliner on NYSE today with 10.88 million shares traded.
