Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Ford Motor Co. (F): shares Dearborn, Michigan based number two auto maker rose 6.24% to $7.83 per share on analyst upgrade on turnaround plan. The stock has been on recovery since late July. But now with stock approaching resistence at $8 and ROC on overbuy level again, the risk of profit taking has increased. The stock was the heaviest traded on NYSE today with 42 million shares traded.
  • Tenet Healthcare Corp.(THC): shares of Dallas, Texas based healthcare service provider surged for the third straight session by adding 7.09% to $7.55 per share on analyst upgrades following a strong second quarter results which beat Wall Street estimates. The stock is now back near resistence at $8 so there's possibility of some profit taking with ROC showing the stock has been overbought. The stock was the tenth leading gainer and the fourteenth heaviest traded on NYSE today with 14 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Cendant Corp.(CD): shares of New York based travel and real estate services provider lost 7.49% to new 52 weeks low of $1.73 per share despite increasing stakes from Icahn. The stock was the sixth leading decliner and the secondheaviest traded on NYSE today with 41.8 million shares traded.
