- Jupitermedia Corp. (JUPM): shares Darien, Connecticut based web graphics provider surged 25.56% to $10.07 per share on possible buyout by Getty Image. The buyout price is at $11 per share. The stock was the second leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 5.1 million shares traded.
- Hecla Mining Co.(HL): shares of Coeur Dalene, Idoho based silver, gold, lead and zinc mining company rose 11.4% to 52 weeks high of $8.11 per share after the mining company posted fourth-quarter profit on higher gold prices. The stock was the second leading gainer on NYSE today with 6.59 million shares traded.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Pharmacyclics(PCYC): shares of Sunnyvale, CA based cancer drug maker plunged 36.71% to $3.19 per share as FDA would not accept marketing application for the company's cancer treatment drug. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 9.35 million shares traded.
- Novastar Financial Inc. (NFI): shares of Kansas City mortgage provider plummetted 42.48% to 52 weeks low of $10.1 per share after the company announced that it may not generate any taxable income from 2007 to 2011. The stock was the leading decliner and the nineth heaviest traded on NYSE today with 22.6 million shares traded.
