Stocks Up On Heavy Volumn:

  • LDK Solar Co. Ltd. (LDK): the China solar cells maker surged 17.78% to $34.45 per share as the company stated that its business remains strong despite the 4th quarter outlook is at low end of expectations. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE today with 5.88 million shares traded.
  • URS Corp. (URS): the approval of the acquisition of Washington Group International that would create the nation's biggest engineering and construction company ignited the rally and send shares or URS up 10.67% to $61.7 per share. The stock was the fifth leading gainer on NYSE today with 12.49 million shares traded.

Stock Down on Heavy Volumn:

  • Fannie Mae (FNM): Bad housing market news keep hammering shares of government sponsored loans maker. Shares fell 10% to $43.04 per share trade. Earlier last month the stock was still trading near $70 per share.
