Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- AVI Biopharma Inc. (AVII): after plunging 32% on Wednesday, shares of Portland, Oregon based potential bird flu drug developer bounced back 10.45% or 46 to $4.63 per share as investors try to get as many shares as possible on bargain price. The stock was the tenth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 5 million shares traded, about two times average volumn.
- Elan Corp. plc (ELN): shares of Dublin, Irland based drug company rose 7.16% or $1.06 to $15.86 per share as investors try to grab the shares as ROC shows the stock is at oversold level. The stock was the second leading gainer on NYSE today with 16 million shares traded, also the thirteenth most heaviest traded on NYSE.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Threshold Pharmaceuticals Inc. (THLD): shares of Austin, Texas MP3 players chips maker lost two third of the values or 75.43% to new 52 weeks low of $3.44 per share after the company's prostate drug development was put on hold as patients suffered complications. The stock was the biggest loser among the US stock exchanges today with 33.5 million shares traded, the nineth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today.
- Expedia Inc. (EXPE): the Bellevue, WA based online travel service provider posted weak first quarter earning and lowered second quarter estimates due to increasing competition. Shares sank 26.2% or $5.15 to new 52 weeks low $14.51 with 27.3 million shares exchanged hands, the eleventh heaviest traded on Nasdaq.
