Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Baidu Inc. (BIDU): shares of leading Chinese internet search site soared 36.81% or $22.596 to $83.976 per share on analyst upgrade following the company's strong second-quarter guidance. The stock is the biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 14.9 million shares traded, about 14 times average volumn.
  • VIVUS Inc.(VVUS): shares of Mountain View, CA based pharmaceutical company surged 31.1% or $1.02 to $4.3 per share after the company annouced positive clinical trial result with its weight-loss treatment product. The stock is the second leading gainer on Nasdaq today with record volumn 7.5 million shares exchanged hands or 63 times normal volumn.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Escala Group Inc. (ESCL): shares of New York based global collectibles auction house plunged for the second straight session by losing another 46.44% to new 52 weeks low of $6.55 per share following the 61.78% drop in the previous trading session on probe of alleged fraud at the company's offices in Spain. Two days ago on Monday the stock was still trading at $32 per share but has lost about 80% since. The stock was biggest loser on Nasdaq today with new record volumn of 9.5 million shares traded, about 27 times average volumn.
  • Transmeta Corp. (TMTA): shares of Santa Clara, CA based energy efficient CPU maker tumbled 32.61% or 75 cents to $1.55 per share on reducing outlook and resignation of cheif financial officer. The stock was the second leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 15.7 million shares traded or four times average volumn.
