- Kyphon Inc. (KYPH): shares of Sunnyvale, CA based medical device maker soared 30.07% to $43.6 per share as the company is buying St. Francis Medical Technologies Inc. for $525 million. The stock is now back around 52 weeks high and was the second best performer on Nasdaq today with 9.17 million shares traded.
- Station Casinos Inc. (STN): shares of Las Vegas, Nevada based casino hotel operator surged 22.87% to 52 weeks high of $84.9 per share after the company received a $4.7 billion buyout offer from its founding family and Colony Capital LLC. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE today with 9.12 million shares traded.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Forbes Medi Tech Inc. (FMTI): shares of Vancouver, Canada based biotechnology company for treatment of high cholesterol plunged 57.38% to new 52 weeks low of $1.01 per share as the mid-stage clinical trial of a drug fell short of the company's goal. FMTI was the worst stock of the day with 8.9 million shares exchagned hands.
- LSI Logic Corp (LSI): shares of Milpitas, CA based semiconductor company tumbled 13.64% to $9.12 per share as the company is buying Agere System for $4.0 billion. The stock was the leading gainer and the second heaviest traded on NYSE today with 52.68 million shares traded.
