Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- Dynavax Technologies Corp. (DVAX): shares of the Berkeley, CA based allergy drug maker soared 32.3 to $9.79 per share with heavy volumn as the company's hepatitis B vaccine shows positive late-stage trial data. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 19.6 million shares traded or ten times average volumn.
- Mobile Telesystems OJSC (MBT): shares of Moscow, Russia based wireless telecommunications services provider surged 8.44% to new 52 weeks high of $47.4 per share as the company's third quater profit reached 486.3 million topping analysts estimate of $388 million. The stock was the third biggest winner on NYSE today with 5.26 million shares traded.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- 3Com Corporation (COMS): the Marlborough, Massachusetts based network equipment maker saw its stock sinking 10.47% to $4.02 per share after the company bought 49% stake of Chinese network company Huawei. The stock was the fifth leading decliner and also the fifth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 61.8 million shares traded.
- Dollar General Corp. (DG): shares of Goodlettsville, TN based discount retailer lost 6.04% to $15.7 per share after the company announced closing of 400 stores. The stock was the second leading decliner on NYSE today with 14 million shares exchanged hands.
