Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • EGL Inc. (EAGL): shares of Houston, Texas based supply chain and information services provider soared 27.94% to $38.1 per share after the CEO is buying out the company for $36 per share. The stock was the fourth leading gainer on Nasdaq with 6.56 million shares exchanged hands.
  • China Life Insurance Co. Ltd.(LFC): shares of Chinese life insurance company jumped 10.37% to $55.75 per share as the company is about to begin tarding at the Shanghai Exchange on January 11. The stock was the sixth leading gainer on NYSE today with 4.57 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Tetra Technologies Inc. (TTI): shares of Woodlands, Texas based oil and gas services company tumbled 10.09% to $23 per share after the company warned that its 2006 earnings will miss estimates. The stock was the biggest loser on NYSE today with 4.8 million shares traded.
  • Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX): shares of New Orleans, Louisiana based copper, gold and silver mining company dropped 9.4% to $50.49 per share as copper price plunged more than 7% due to concerns of imcreasing metal stockpiles. The stock was the third leading decliner on NYSE today with 14.18 million shares traded.
