Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Atherogenics Inc. (AGIX): shares of Alpharetta, Georgia based chronic inflammatory diseases drug maker soared 24.07% to $12.06 per share on speculation of positive results from a heart drug trial. This ends the year long slide which began in January of last year. The stock was the leading gainer on Nasdaq with 6.22 million shares exchanged hands.
  • NYSE Group Inc. (NYX): the operator of New York Stock Exchange is among the leading gainers on NYSE today gaining 7.67% to $102.39 as the stock exchange updated listed trading volumn. The stock was the third leading gainer on NYSE with 14 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Herbalife Ltd. (HLF): shares of Los Angeles, based nutritional supplement maker plunged 24.33% to $29.74 per share after the company cut its sales forecast for 2007 due to slow growth in Mexico. The stock was the second leading decliner on NYSE today with 11.2 million shares traded.
  • Global Payments Inc. (GPN): shares of Atlanta, based consumer money transfer service provider tumbled 16.23% to $41.09 per share on downgrade after the company posted an so so result inline with Wall Street estimates. For the past four years the company continuesly beat Wall Street's forcast. The stock was the third leading decliner on NYSE today with 8.87 million shares traded.
