Stocks On The Move - February 23

Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Neopharm Inc.(NEOL): shares of Lake Forest, IL based cancer drug maker soared 29.21% to $2.3 per share, the first major rally after the stock plunged from $7 to $2 last December due to failed late stage testing for its clotting drug. The stock was the best performer on Nasdaq with 4.57 million shares traded.
  • Verigy, Ltd.(VRGY): shares of Singapore based semiconductor testing company surged 23.57% to $23.33 per share after the company reported first quarter result which beat Wall Street estimates and also issued strong second quarter forecast. The stock was the fifth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 6 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • BEA Systems Inc.(BEAS): shares of San Jose, CA based enterprise application infrastructure software maker tumbled 9.47% or $11.95 per share despite posting 15% revenue growth for the fourth quarter. However due to internal review of stock-option practices the company will not yet report its full earnings for the quarter or fiscal year. The stock was the eighth leading decliner and the fifth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 58.69 million shares traded.
  • Novastar Financial Inc. (NFI): so far shares of Kansas City mortgage provider haven't found the bottom as this marked the third staright day of loss with another 9.21% to new 52 weeks low of $8.48. The stock so far lost 50% in just three days amid broad shakeout of subprime lenders. The stock was the third leading decliner on NYSE today with 10.84 million shares traded.
