Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Novavax Inc. (NVAX): shares of Malvern, PA based avian flu vaccine maker bounced back 13.51% or 65 cents to $5.46 per share after sliding for four consecutive sessions from $6.68 pers share last Wednesday to as low as $4.81 per share yesterday on analyst downgrade. The stock is the tenth leading advancer on Nasdaq today with almost twice average volumn of 9.2 million shares traded.
  • Mills Corp.(MLS): shares of Arlington, VA based real estate investment trust(REIT) of 42 properties in US, Canada and Europe surged 15.1% or $3.98 to $30.33 per share after the company cut its dividend by more than half and received default waivers from its lenders. The stock is the biggest winner NYSE today with 5 million shares traded, about three times average volumn.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Blue Dolphin Energy Co. (BDCO): shares of Houston, Texas based natural gas and oil exploration company sank 14.67% or $1.04 to $6.05 per share on profit taking ending the surge which began on March 30 at $2.19 per share. During the rally the stock went as high as $7.09 per share. The stock is the fourth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 6.8 million shares traded, about 8 times average volumn.
  • Avid Technology Inc. (AVID): shares of Tweksbury, MA based software and hardware developer for digital media production plunged 14.13% or $6.14 to $37.31 per share after the company issued first quarter warning. The company expects to earn 35 to 38 cents per share for the first quarter compare with analysts estimate of 49 cents per share. The stock was the sixth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 8.5 million shares traded, more than 10 times average volumn.
