Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- Sanmina-SCI Corp. (SANM): shares of San Jose, CA based eletronics manufacturing services company soared 25.99% or $1.05 to $5.09 per share as the company reported solid earning result for its fiscal second quarter and bullish earning outlook for th third quarter. The stock was the fifth leading gainer and third heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 73 million shares exchanged hands, about 12 times average volumn.
- Discovery Laboratories Inc. (DSCO): shares of Warrington, PA based biotechnology company which develops Surfactant Replacement Therapies(SRT) rebounded back 17.27% or 38 cents to $2.58 per share after plummeting 53.09% yesterday on delaying of the FDA review of the company's lead drug. The stock was the seventh biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 10.8 million shares traded or seven times average volumn.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Sigmatel Inc. (SGTL): shares of Austin, Texas MP3 players chips maker plunged 22.62% to new 52 weeks low of $6.84 per share after the company swung to a net loss of $24.7 million for the first quarter of 2006 compared to net income of $25.5 million for the same time in 2005. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 9.5 million shares traded, about seven times average volumn.
- Moody's Corp. (MCO): shares of New York based credit rating agency company dropped 11.97% or $8.43 to $62 per share as the company's first quarter revenue of $440.2 million missed analysts' estimates of $451.8 million. The stock was the fifth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 10.4 million shares traded, about 9 times average volumn.
