(FNF): shares of Jacksonville, Florida based home insurance provider soared 24.32% or $8.51 to $43.5 per share as the company plans to split into two public traded companies: Fidelity National Information Service Inc. and Fidelity National Financial. The stock was the third leading gainer on NYSE today with 12 million shares traded, about 12 times average volumn.
- InterDigital Communications Corp. (IDCC): shares of King of Prussia, PA based wireless technology development and licensing company surged 20.31% or $4.56 to new 52 weeks high of $27.01 per share after Nokia Corp. (NOK) agreed to pay $253 million on royalty dispute settlement. The stock was the fourth biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 6.5 million shares traded or ten times average volumn.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (VTSS): shares of Camarillo, CA based fiber optic network components provider plunged 27.49% or 69 cents to $1.82 per share after the company plans to restate earnings for more than three years as an internal investigation late Wednesday uncovered questionable accounting practices. The stock was the second leading decliner and the fifth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 59 million shares traded, about five times average volumn.
- Aetna Inc. (AET): shares of one of the nation's leading health insurance company tumbled 20.31% or $9.43 to $37 per share on increasing medical cost and retirement of two key executives due to stolen of sensitive customer information despite posting strong first quarter result. The stock was the second leading decliner and second heaviest traded on NYSE today with 54.8 million shares traded, about 18 times average volumn.
