Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- Jameson Inns Inc. (JAMS): shares of Atlanta, Georgia based hotel operator for 107 hotels in sourtheastern and midwestern United State soared 56 cents or 24.45% to new 52 weeks high of $2.85 per share after the company would be acquired by real estate investment company JER Partner for $371 million or $2.97 per share. The stock was the biggest winner on Nasdaq today with record volumn 16 million shares traded or 54 times average volumn.
- Atmel Corp.(ATML): shares of San Jose, CA based memory chips maker surged 8.22% or 36 cents to $4.74 per share after one of the company's shareholders, RDG Capital LLC, is interested in buying the company for $5.5 per share. The stock was the thirteenth leading gainer and fifteenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 24 million shares exchanged hands.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Pacific Ethanol Inc. (PEIX): shares of Fresno, CA based renewable fuels maker plunged 13.53% or $4 to $25.57 per share on profit taking and new analysis showing the stock could head for an earnings shortfall. For this year the stock has gained as much as 300% as it reached 52 weeks high of $44.5 on May 11. Since then the stock has fall for seven consecutive trading sessions. The stock was the thirteenth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with record volumn of 8.8 million shares traded or almost three times average volumn.
- Trident Microsystems Inc. (TRID): shares of Sunnyvale, CA based graphic chips maker plummted 12.95% or $3.54 to $23.79 per share after the chip maker's audit committee is conducting an inquiry into stock options granted to executives between 200 and 2004. The stock was the fourteenth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 9.6 million shares traded or six times average volumn.
