Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- General Motors Corporation(GM): shares of world's leading auto giant surged 8.29% or $2.23 to $26.51 per share on upgrade from Merril Lynch citing the automaker's restructuring plans are ahead of schedule. The stock was the fourth biggest winner and fourth heaviest traded on NYSE today with 27 million shares exchanged hands.
- Capstone Turbine Corp.(CPST): shares of Chatsworth, CA based microturbine generator maker jumped 14.29% or 42 cents to $3.36 per share after the company received Materials Equipment Acceptance approval from New York City Department of Buildings. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 7.15 million shares traded, more than twice of average volumn.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XMSR): shares of world's leading satellite radio provider plunged 11.35% or $1.76 to new 52 weeks low of $13.43 per share after the company reduced foreast for subscriber growth and revenue for the second quarter. The company now expects subscriber growth of 8.5 million for the year, down from previous estimate of 9 million. The stock was the seventh leading decliner and nineteenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 23 million shares traded.
- MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. (WFR): shares of St. Peters, MO based semiconductor wafers maker dropped for the twelveth consecutive trading session by losing another 7.88% or $2.82 to $32.97 per share since the stock reached 52 weeks high on May 8. The stock was the tenth leading decliner on NYSE today with 7.3 million shares traded or twice of average volumn.
