Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc.(CBST): shares of Lexington, MA based antibiotic drug maker soared 20.24% or $4.3 to new 52 weeks high of $25.55 per share on FDA's approval of its Antibiotic drug Cubicin. The stock was the third biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 5.7 million shares traded.
  • Las Vegas Sands Corp.(LVS): shares of Las Vegas, NV based casino resort operator in Las Vegas and Macau surged 9.36% or $5.96 to $69.63 per share as the company won the bid to build a $3.2 billion casino resort in Singapore. The stock was the fourth best performer on NYSE today with 7.5 million shares traded, more than three times average volumn.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Credence Systems Corp. (CMOS): shares of Milpitas, CA based semiconductor testing equipment maker plunged 28.59% or $1.83 to new 52 weeks low of $4.57 per share on analysts downgrade after the company canned its highest profile projects. The stock was the second leading decliner and the eleventh most heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 19.4 million shares traded.
  • Cooper Companies Inc. (COO): shares of Pleasanton, CA based cosmetic lenses maker tumbled 8.11% or $4.2 to $47.58 per share on negative report from analyst saying the company's second-quarter results may fall short of expectations. The stock was the fourth leading decliner on NYSE today with 5.5 million shares traded or ten times average volumn.
