Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- ECC Capital Corp. (ECR): shares of real estate investment trust company soared 23.08% to $1.28 per share after Bear Stern Residential Mortgage agreed to buy the subprime mortgage origination platform of the company's subsidiary, Encore Credit for $26 million in cash. The stock has chance to be back to new rally as K line is now back on top over D line. The stock was the biggest winner on NYSE today with 7.54 million shares traded.
- Jacuzzi Brands Inc. (JJZ): shares of West Palm Beach, Florida based bathtubs maker surged 19.32% to $12.35 per share after private-equity firm was buying the company for $990 million or $12.5 per share. The stock was the second leading gainer on NYSe today with 15.9 million shares traded.
Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Legg Mason Inc. (LM): shares of the Baltimore, Maryland based investment bank plunged 17.24% to $87.15 per share on earning warning. The stock is now in weak market as K line is below D line and stock is below 50 day moving average. The stock was the second biggest loser on NYSE today with 16.23 million shares traded.
- TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (AMTD): shares Omaha, NE based online investment brokerage firm tumbled 11.94% to $16.82 per share after Bank of America Corp. begins to offer free online stock trade. Technical chart shows weak signal as K line is now below D line. The stock was the fifth leading decliner and the fourth heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 45.76 million shares exchanged hands.
