Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • American Power Conversion Corp. (APCC): shares of West Kingston, Rhode Island based uninterrupted power supply(UPS) maker soared 26.35% to $30.02 per share after Schneider Electric is buying the company for $6.1 bilion. The stock was the leading gainer and the second heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 86.47 million shares traded.
  • Trustreet Properties Inc. (TSY): shares of Orlando, Florida based REIT company surged 35.65% to $16.97 per share after the company would be acquired by GE Capital for $3 billion or $17.05 per share. The stock was the best performer on NYSE today with 9.1 million shares exchanged hands.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Emisphere Technologies Inc. (EMIS): shares of Tarrytown, NY based drug delivery company plunged 23.76% to $6.77 per share after the company received mixed results from study of its diabetes drug candidate. Technical chart shows the stock may bounce back as ROC is at oversold level. The stock was the leading decliner on NYSE today with 11.89 million shares traded.
  • Tenet Healthcare Corp.(THC): shares of Dallas, Texas based healthcare service provider tumbled 10.6% to $7.42 per share after the company forecast $82 million to $92 million net loss for the third quarter. The technical chart shows weakness as KD is still falling. The stock was the second leading decliner on NYSE today with 9.78 million shares traded.
