Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Highway Holdings Ltd. (HIHO): shares of Hong Kong based metal, plastic and electric parts maker for contract manufacturers soared 22.12% to $6.46 per share after the company received two orders from U.S. customers. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 3.1 million shares traded.
  • Mills Corp. (MLS): shares of shopping center REIT surged 16.83% today to $17.77 per share with $499 million funding from San Francisco hedge fund. The stock was the second biggest winner on NYSE today with 5.6 million shares exchanged hands.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Symantec Corp. (SYMC): shares of Cupertino, CA based enterprises software maker plunged 13.13% to $17.79 per share after the company cuts its earning projections for the third quarter due to lower revenue from maintenance contracts. The stock was the second leading decliner and the second heaviest traded on Nasdaq tody with 121 million shares traded.
  • Commerce Bancorp Inc. (CBH): shares of Cherry Hill, NJ based commercial banking company tumbled 8.32% to $31.83 per share as its officials are under federal investigation. The stock was the second leading decliner on NYSEtoday with 15 million shares exchanged hands.
