Stocks On The Move - January 18

Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Hoku Scientific Inc. (HOKU): shares of fuel cell and solar power component company skyrocketted 122.58% to $6.9 per share after the company signed a 7 year contract with Sanyo Electric for $370 million. The stock is now back to the level last seen in May of last year. The stock was the leading gainer and the eleventh heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 28 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • LAM Research Corp. (LRCX): shares of Fremont, CA based semiconductor process equipment maker tumbled 14.61% to $46.22 per share despite a strong second quarter due to negative outlook. The stock was the fifth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with heavy volumn of 18 million shares traded.
  • Knight Capital Group Inc.(NITE): shares of Jersey City, NJ based asset management services provider drop 14.12% to $18.43 per share today as Wall Street saw weakness in the firm's fourth-quarter report. The stock was the sixth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 7.17 million shares traded.
