Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
- TXU Corp.(TXU): shares of Dallas, TX based electricity utility company operator surged 13.18% to $67.93 per share after Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Texas Pacific is taking the company rpivate for $45 billion or $69.25 per share. The stock was the third best performer on NYSE with 48 million shares traded, the second heaviest traded.
- Temple-Inland Inc.(TIN): shares of Austin, Texas corrugated packaging and forest products company jumped 12.85% to $62.01 per share after Carl Icahn had advocated the company to break up into three seperate companies. The stock was the fourth leading gainer on NYSE today with 11.33 million shares traded.
Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:
- Force Protection Inc.(FRPT): shares of Ladson, SC based mine and blast protected vehicles maker plunged 14.53% to $17 per share after rival Oshkosh Truck Corp. signed $30.6 million contract with Marine Corps. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 4.8 million shares traded.
- Clair's Stores Inc. (CLE): shares of teenagers clothing retailer tumbled 7.01% to $32.52 per share so far as the company is having trouble finding a buyer. The stock was the fifth leading decliner on NYSE today with 6.08 million shares traded.
