Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc. (VSEA): shares of io implantation systems maker which is required to build transistors for integrated circuits surged 22.79% to $70 per share on strong second quarter earning which beat Wall Street estimates. The stock was the second leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 7.9 million shares traded.
  • Cummins Inc.(CMI): shares of diesel and natural gas engines maker jumped 11.8% to $96.14 per share as the company's first quarter profit rose 6%. The rise are mostly from its power generation segment. The stock was the fifth leading gainer on NYSE today with 15.6 million shares exchanged hands.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Omnicare Inc. (OCR): shares of Covington, Kentucky based pharmacy services provider for long-term care institutions lost 15.54% to 52 weeks low of $34.9 per share on as the company's net income forecast for 2007 is below Wall Street's estimates. The stock was the leading decliner on NYSE today with 18.9 million shares traded.
  • MEMC Electronic Materials Inc. (WFR): shares of St. Peters, MO based solar panel semiconductors components maker tumbled 14.31% to $57.54 per share on downgrade as analyst warned about an upcoming oversupply of polysilicon which is used to maker solar panels. The stock was the second leading decliner on NYSE today with 19.3 million shares traded.
