• Ivanhoe Energy Inc.(IVAN): shares of Vancouver, Canada based oil and gas company gained 14.22% to $2.65 per share as the company is developing oil field in Iraq with Inpex. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 17 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

• Avici Systems Inc. (AVCI): shares of North Billerica, MA based network router maker plunged 28.73% to $9.65 per share after the company quit the hardware business. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 6 million shares traded.
• Avanir Pharmaceuticals (AVNR): shares of San Deigo based chronic diseases drug maker tumbled 24.86% to $3.9 per share on profit taking. In the previous session the stock jumped 300%. The stock was the second leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 73 million shares traded also the third heavies traded.
