Stocks On The Move - April 18

Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Avanir Pharmaceuticals (AVNR): shares of San Deigo based chronic diseases drug maker skyrocketted more than 300% to $5.19 per share on positive clinical trial of its drug Zenvia. The stock last Feburary was still trading at $18.14 but went all the way to $1 range last month due to delay of FDA approval on Zenvia. The stock was the clear winner of the stock market today and also the third heaviest traded on Nasdaq with 86 million shares traded.
  • Atherogenics Inc. (AGIX): shares of Alpharetta, Georgia based chronic inflammatory diseases drug maker surged 19.88% to $3.86 per share on no news announcement. The stock earlier last month plunged from $10 to $3 due to negative clinical trial results but now it looks like buyers are back again. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 7.3 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Yahoo Inc (YHOO): shares of internet giant plunged 11.78% to $28.31 per share as quarterly profit tumbled 11% due to higher operating costs. With heavy volumn of 128 millions shares, highest on the stock market today the stock was ranked the fifth leading decliner on Nasdaq.
  • Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR): shares of Marlboro, MA, based solar power company dropped 10.59% or $10.64 due to second quarter warning despite a strong first quarter result. The stock was the seventh leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 10 million shares traded.
