Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • BioVeris Corp. (BIOV): shares of biological and chemical substances diagnostic products maker jumped 51.91% to $20.66 per share after Swiss drug maker Roche is buying the company for $600 million or $21.5 per share. The stock was the biggest winner on Nasdaq today with 6.37 million shares traded.
  • Nanogen Inc. (NGEN): shares of San Diego based nanotechnology company soared 31% to $1.65 per share after it annouced that it has won a Government Service Administration contract. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 14.6 million shares traded.
  • Mamma.com Inc. (MAMA): shares of Canadian online video search provider surged 20.79% to $5.6 per share on no news announcement. The stock was the fifth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 14.55 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Packeteer Inc. (PKTR): shares of Cupertino, CA based wide area network service provider plunged 29.75% to $8.83 per share after the company lowered its first quarter revenue outlook. The stock was the leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 9.9 million shares traded.
