Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Avici Systems Inc.(AVCI): shares of high-speed network equipment maker jumped 35.27% to $11.39 per share as the company reported 53% increase in second quarter profit on high revenue and low cost. The company earned $12.1 million, up from $7.9 million the same period last year. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 13 million shares traded.
  • Beacon Power Corp. (BCON): after a week of pull back shares of the energy storage product maker surged 26.76% to $1.8 per share as bargain hunter came after saw stock hitting 20 day moving average. No news on the stock today that affects the heavy movement. The stock was the sixth leading gainer on Nasdaq with 8.8 million shares traded.
  • Labor Ready Inc. (LRW): shares of manual labor and light industrial rose 21.09% to new 52 weeks high of $27.79 per share due to bullish outlook and analyst upgrade. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE with 5.38 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • American Home Mortgage Investment Corp. (AHM): shares of real estate investment trust company plunged 20.82% to $10.76 per share on concern of the mortgage lenders credit. The stock was the worst performer on NYSE today with 11.56 million shares traded.
