Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • NutriSystem Inc. (NTRI): shares of Horsham, PA based weight loss program and product provider skyrocketted 34.14% or $17.31 to new all time high of $68.01 per share on record first quarter profit which blew alway Wall Street's expectations. The company for the quarter earned $22.3 million, about 7 times more than the same quarter a year ago. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 10 million shares traded, about 8 times average volumn.
  • Serologicals Corp. (SERO): shares of Norcross, GA based consumable biological products maker soared 33.58% or $7.83 to new 52 weeks high of $31.15 today as Millipore Corp. agreed to buy the company for $1.4 billion. The stock was the fourth leading advancer on Nasdaqy today with 15 million shares traded, about 30 times average volumn.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Discovery Laboratories Inc. (DSCO): shares of Warrington, PA based biotechnology company which develops Surfactant Replacement Therapies(SRT) plunged 53.09% or $2.49 to new 52 weeks low of $2.2 per share as the FDA review of the company's lead drug will be further deplayed. The stock was the biggest loser on Nasdaq today with 24 million shares traded, the fifteenth heaviest traded on Nasdaq.
  • DOV Pharmaceutical Inc. (DOVP): shares of Hackensack, NJ based drug maker for central nervous system disorders dove 42.14% or $6.19 to new 52 weeks low of $8.5 per share on analyst downgrade following disappointing clinical traial on a back-pain drug. The stock was the second leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 9.9 million shares traded, about 15 times average volumn.
