Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Nuvelo Inc. (NUVO): shares of drug maker skyrocketted 52.69% to $5.68 per share on rumors that Bayer is taking the company's experimental blood clot dissolver for further trials. The stock was the leading gainer and the third heaviest traded on Nasdaq today with 65 million shares traded.
  • Dendreon Corp.(DNDN): the red hot biotechnology company is still unstoppable as shares soared 30.64% to $23.58 per share despite warning from analyst. The stock since March 29 has gained 350%. The stock today is the seventh leading gainer and the second heaviest traded on Nasdaq with 79 million shares traded.

Stocks Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Daktronics Inc. (DAKT): shares of scoreboards maker plunged 20.71% to $22.13 per share after the company issued profit and sales warning. The stock was the second leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 6.56 million shares traded.
  • American Home Mortgage Investment Corp. (AHM): shares of residential mortgage loans company tumbled 15.17% to $21.92 per share on analyst downgrade as the company lowered its profit target due to cooling market. The stock was the leading decliner on NYSE today with 5.8 million shares traded.
