Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • Baidu.om Inc.(BIDU): shares of Chinese internet search giant jumped 14.1% to $25.83 per share. This is a incredible performance considering how bad today's market is. • Amerigroup Corp. (AGP): shares of healthcare company surged 15.37% to $27.62 per share as the company's second quarter earning topped analysts estimtes. The stock was the leading gainer on NYSE today with 5.24 million shares traded.

Stock Drop on Heavy Volumn:

  • Akamai Technologies Inc. (AKAM): the bad news is the market is on a broad retreat today but the good news is most stocks are down on light volumn meaning not many people are selling. However that's not the case for the internet content and application solutions provider Akamai which saw its shares hammered by 18.89% to $38.27 per share with trading volumn 5 times over average volumn to 37 million shares as analysts doubts about the company's near future. The stock was the leading seventh leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 37 million shares traded.
  • Sonus Networks Inc. (SONS): another stock down sharply on heavy volumn is the network infrastructure equipment maker Sonus Network with shares down 16.55% to $6.91 per share as the company completes its option probe. The stock was the tenth leading decliner on Nasdaq today with 64.5 million shares traded, the eighth heaviest traded.
