Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:
  • SiRF Technology Holdings Inc. (SIRF): shares of San Jose, CA based global positioning system(GPS) chips maker soared 27.94% to $29.81 per share as the company's third quarter profit exceeds Wall Street estimates on strong navigation device market. The stock was the fourth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 11.95 million shares exchanged hands.
  • Mastercard Incorporated (MA): shares of leading credit-card processor surged 20.85% to new high of $189.91 per share as the company's 3rd quarter profit jumps 63% on increase in oversea spending. The stock was the second leading gainer on NYSE today with 20.28 million shares traded.

Stocks Rise on Heavy Volumn:

  • Sepracor Inc. (SEPR): shares of Marlborough, MA based pharmaceutical firm surged 16.12% to $26.73 per share on positive outlook for 2008 with cost cutting effort. The stock was just trading at new 52 weeks low yesterday but today was the eighth leading gainer on Nasdaq today with 10 million shares traded.
  • On2 Technologies Inc. (ONT): shares of On2 Technology, a Clifton Park, NY based video codec software maker rose for the third straight sessions with another 9.26% gain to $1.18 per share on successful integration of its product with RipCode. The stock was the fifth leading gainer on AMEX today with 6.2 million shares traded.

Stocks Up on Heavy Volumn:


  • Art Technology Group (ARTG): Shares surged 19.35% to $4.07 per share after the company reported a 65% jump in revenue in the third quarter from $21.8 million to $35.9 million. This exceeds the analyst estimate of $32.5 million. The stock was the seventh leading gainer on Nasdaq on Tuesday with 11.87 million shares traded.
  • New York Times Company (NYT): shares of newspaper publisher rose 9.83% to $20.22 per share as the company reported increase in third quarter earning from $12.6 million to $13.4 million. Heavy volumn of 6 million shares were traded.

Stocks Down on Heavy Volumn:

  • Level 3 Communication Inc. (LVLT): shares plunged 24.07% to $3.28 per share. The stock was the fifth leading decliner and the heaviest traded stock on Nasdaq 280 million shares traded.
  • PFB Bankcorp Inc. (PFB): shares sank to new 52 weeks low of $9.78 per share and at the end recovered back to 17.86% loss of $11.45 per share. The stock was the leading decliner on NYSE with 5 million shares traded.

Stocks Up on Heavy Volumn:

  • CyberSource Corp. (CYBS): weak outlook and worries sank the entire market today with every major indices losing at least 2.5%. However there is rare winner such as Mountain View, CA based CyberSource which provides merchants with online credit card payment solutions. Shares surged 18.35% to $14.9 per share as Needham analyst upgraded the stock to Buy as the company's outlook is healthy and third quarter results were strong. The stock was the third leading gainer on Nasdaq on Friday with 4.67 million shares traded.
  • Standard Pacific Corp. (SPF): the hard hit home builders are attracting bargain hunters as various of home builder stocks actually went up today. The biggest gainer is Irvine, CA based Standard Pacific Corp. gaining 7.8% to $4.42 per share with heavy volumn of 9.3 million shares traded. However for the year the stock has lost more than 80% of its value.

Stocks Down on Heavy Volumn:

  • Angiotech Pharmaceuticals Inc. (ANPI): reporting weak outlook on a weak market probably was why the Vancouver, Canada based pharmaceutical company lost 33.86% of its stock value and ended at new 52 weeks low at $4.98 per share. The stock was the worst stock on Nasdaq on Friday with heavy volumn of 7 million shares traded.
  • SanDisk Corp. (SNDK): sharp drop of third quarter profit sank shares of the flash memory driver maker to six month low of $42.71. The stock was the ninthly leading decliner with 45 million shares traded.

Stocks On The Move - October 8

The biggest mover of the day is Vonage Holdings (VG), a major digital phone service provider that was in serious trouble due to six patents infringement of Sprint which may put the company out of business. The settlement with Sprint on Monday send the stock up 123.48% to $2.57 per share on hope that the company's business could be back on track. The trading volumn also made an all time high with 35 million shares exchanged hands.

In Nasdaq the Chinese information network security provider
CTDC reported a strong result for the six months ending June, 2007 with net income of $796,600 compared to net loss of $736,000 US for the same period in 2006. The news helped the stock to reached new 52 weeks high of $11.98 and finished the day gaining 24.28% to $10.39 per share. The heavy volumn of 15.67 million shares was also an all time high.

Another China based company LDK Solar(
LDK) however was on the eighth straight losing session with 26.4% loss to $37.5 per share, losing half of its value in just 5 days. This all started when a former eecutive said the solar wafer maker had problems with its silicon inventories. Even in the after market the stock lost another 4.53% to $35.8 per share.
